Abstract

Labor migration is a complex phenomenon that promises economic improvement but also carries serious risks to family integrity. This research focuses on the family dynamics of migrant workers in Tanen Village, Tulungagung, who despite being vulnerable to problems, have managed to maintain harmony. Using a qualitative-sociological-legal approach and a field case study, this research examines how these families actualize Thomas and Kilmann's theory of conflict management styles. Primary data was collected through in-depth interviews with 10 migrant worker families who successfully maintained the integrity of their households. The findings show that the durability of their relationships is supported by the application of conflict management styles such as collaboration, compromise, avoidance, and accommodation, while the competition style is avoided because it is considered to trigger greater disputes. In addition, strong interaction adaptability allows couples to divide roles, both in the fulfillment of material and non-material rights and obligations. Good communication, commitment, and mutual trust are the main foundations in maintaining this long-distance relationship. In conclusion, the resilience of migrant worker families in Tanen Village depends not only on economic support, but also on emotional and social intelligence in managing conflict.
